Puerto del Carmen, Old Town.

The charming Old Town is set around the harbour and has bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.  Some restaurants specialise in freshly caught local fish. By the restaurants you can watch the locals play boules in the evenings and there is a children’s play area.  A variety of boat trips can be taken from the harbour including fishing trips and pleasure cruises. Catch the water taxi from here to Puerto Calero which is just along the coast - much more fun than going by car. Walk west and you can enjoy a stroll along the harbour edge via the new boardwalk. Further on and up the zig zag and you are on the coastal path to Puerto Calero.  The Biosfera shopping mall in the old town hosts such well known names as Zara and Timberland. There are a choice of restaurants  and lots for the children to do on the top floor of the shopping mall. It is a pleasure to visit and a good place to cool off on a hot day because it is air conditioned.

A variety of sports including tennis and squash are available at the sports centre near the Fariones Hotel which is located between the new and old town. Also here is the popular Chica Beach. This beach is used by the dive schools to teach beginners. It is a small cove style beach and is very popular with families. It has a useful restaurant just alongside.

This part of Puerto del Carmen has undergone changes over the last few years. The traffic is now one way along the beach road which has made room for a wider pavement for those shopping or strolling along the promenade as well as gaining a very popular cycle lane.

At night time this area becomes very lively with the casino, bars and night clubs open well into the early hours.

Head East and the Rocas Negras beach before you get to the San Antonio hotel is popular with children for the rock pools.

The village beach is central with  Playa Dorada next along the promenade heading East. Beyond that is the Rubicon Marina and then further on Papagayo. Head West from the village centre and there is  the well known Flamingo beach. The promenade goes all along the waters edge from east of the Rubicon Marina right round  to the lighthouse at the western end of the resort. Also at the western end is Montana Roja (Red Volcano) which has great views from the top if you fancy a climb. The village centre has an excellent choice of restaurants and shops.
